The AT&T National 2010

The PGA tour heads to the AT&T National at the Aronimink golf club in Newtown Square Pennsylvania. The tournament which is normally played at the Congressional country Club, has moved here this year and in 2011 whilst the Congressional prepares to host the 2011 U.S Open

The AT&T National is one of only five tournaments given invitational status by the PGA Tour, which means it has a reduced field of 120 players as opposed to open tournaments which have 156 players.

The course was designed by Donald Ross in 1928 and the layout remains basically the same, despite some modernization to the bunkers. The most significant change has been the growth of the trees, which has changed the appearance of the course.

The 7,237 yard layout is a par 70 course with only two par 5s, the ninth hole being 605 yards, four par 3s and the rest par 4s.

Last year the tournament was won by Tiger Woods, when he beat Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan.

The defending champion will be joined by the some of the world’s top golfers including Jim Furyk, Davis Love 111, Vijay Singh, Scott Verplank, and Justin Rose, before they all head off to Scotland for the British Open.
