Haas makes Presidents Cup Team

Bill Haas is celebrating the end of the first month of fall like no other.

Not only did he win the Tour Championship on Sunday, as well as the FedEx Cup with its $10 million jackpot, but Tuesday he received another highly sought after prize – a spot in the Presidents Cup.

U.S. Captain Fred Couples used his two picks on Tiger Woods and Haas, whose triumph last weekend was his first win of the year.

"Bill Haas knew he had to win last week, and he did it," Couples said. "I could not leave him off the team after that. When a guy knows that second place ... and he'll tell you, second place isn't good enough. And he understood that."

Couples chose Haas, the son of vice-captain Jay Haas, over Keegan Bradley, whose two wins this year include the PGA Championship.

International captain Greg Norman selected two Australians as his picks – Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley, who tied for third at the Tour Championship.

Norman said that Allenby was practically “an automatic pick” because of his long-time success at Royal Melbourne, the venue for the Presidents Cup on Nov. 17-20.

Woods was announced as a pick five weeks ago, despite having missed most of the summer with left leg injuries.

He is due to play next week at the Frys.com Open, and will play in the Australian Open the week before the matches.

"Congrats to Bill Haas and Tiger Woods. They deserve the picks. Although I'm very disappointed, I've very happy to have been considered. GO USA," Bradley said on Twitter.

Bradley becomes the first American to win a major and be left off a team in the same year since British Open champion Todd Hamilton was not chosen for the 2004 Ryder Cup team.
