Choosing a New Putter

A putter seems like it would be one of the easiest clubs to choose for your golf bag and in some ways it is. It needs to be remembered though that there are many different variations of putter each style and choice can have a major effect on your game. Putting can make or break your game, it can be the big finish so it’s always important to have a putter that suits you and you’re playing style. Here is a simple guide to putters to help you with that choice.

Length
When choosing the length of your putter always first consider the length of your arms. Obviously the longer arms that you have the shorter the putter you want and vice versa. Typical lengths for men are around 35 inches and for women it tends to be about 33 inches.

Club Face
Do you want an offset face or a non-offset face. Offset simply means that the head of the club is slightly back behind the shaft of the club. This means that with an offset face the shaft will be level with the ball before the club head is. The advantage of this is that the player has more time to adjust their swing and the club to ensure that the club face is level with the ball and hitting it centrally for a more accurate shot and more distance.

Putter Head
There are three types of putter; the blade, the traditional and the mallet style. The blade has become less popular over the years, the mallet style seems to be the most popular now. The mallet style has a lower centre of gravity which means that you can get more push behind the ball to follow it through. It is mostly down to personal preference as to which style a player chooses.

Long and Belly
Two other types of putters are the long putter and the belly putter. Long putters have become very popular with people that have back problems. Belly putters will aid with accuracy aim and alignment. The end of the grip will rest firmly in the mid section and provides stability so that the club can move straight back and through.

Those are the basic elements to choosing a golf club, so hopefully it will help you to make the correct decision for you.
