Golf Hybrid - Buying Guide

What Hybrid to Buy?
The Hybrid club is something that has recently developed and become very popular over the last few years. The clubs are a cross between drivers and irons and combine the best features of the two clubs. Although they are newly popular, hybrids have been around for a very long time. Hybrids are good for those people that find long irons extremely hard to hit.

So Where Did They Come From?
Clubs like the hybrids have been available for many years, coming under the category or rescue woods or irons. Combining the features of a wood and an iron, rescue woods had smaller heads, and rails at the bottom to help the club get through the sand easier and rough easier. They were the same length and style as woods so were always classed as woods.

When to Use Hybrids
Hybrids will launch the ball higher and further than your irons, making it much easier to clear obstacles such as bunkers or water. They also provide great distance and accuracy so are perfect from down the fairway, making light of par 5’s and maybe even giving you some birdies.

Hybrids are larger and deeper than long irons so they ensure that you can cut through the rough relatively easily. Irons tend to get caught up in the longer grass, this is just one of the many things that hybrids have improved upon. As the club head is larger and heavier, not only does it help with the rough but it helps in bunkers too. The heavy club allows it to sweep through the sand without losing momentum, allowing you to clear the bunker with ease.

Hybrids have shorter shafts than other clubs. This allows players to make bump and run shots on the ground. Players find that they can hold the club like they were putting and make the same through motion.

Important Tips
When choosing a hybrid you should always stick to one where the shaft is similar in length to your current irons. Also stick to a hybrid where the shaft is made from the same material as your other clubs, this will ensure you’re not having to change your swing every time you use a new club.  Also choose a club that is aesthetically pleasing to you, this will build up your confidence.
