Golf Clubs – Ryder Cup – Why America Lost
Golf Clubs Ryder Cup Why America Lost
America is on a losing streak after losing the Ryder Cup for the third time to Europe so what went wrong with our team's golf clubs?
Britain invented the game
The fact that Britain, or to be more specific, Scotland, is the home of golf, with the most famous golf clubs in the world was rammed home after Europe beat the Americans in the 2006 Ryder Cup.
Why?
Sports commentators and analysts are pouring over the reasons why America , with the world's number one players, could lose. The US Captain of the Ryder Cup Tom Lehman told the press after the event that he didn't know why they were on such a losing streak at the K Golf Club in Ireland .
Ryder Cup agony
Not only did they lose the game with such a large margin, it's also the fifth time in six meetings and third in succession. So why did they lose when the American Ryder Cup team had the top three players swinging their golf clubs in the world today?
Unbalanced
Captain Lehman said he needed to reflect to try and figure that one out. Some believe the PGA Tour simply does not have the strength and depth of the European Tour. And yet, the American events have higher rankings and financial rewards for those who are successful with their golf clubs, which might explain the in-balance at the Ryder Cup.
Team spirit
Some are saying the teamwork failed, and that the Americans in the Ryder Cup are perhaps more used to individual success with their golf clubs. Others are blaming the use of four rookies in the tournament. Captain Lehman said Europe simply made more putts. Critics have even suggested the American team just didn't care enough to swing their golf clubs to victory and win the Ryder Cup. The fact is the team spirit is if anything, stronger on the US team America has always been better at whooping their teams up.
The way it goes
The bottom line for Mickelson was that the Americans felt they played well in the Ryder Cup and it's not for want of trying with their golf clubs: Things just didn't go our way, Mickelson told the press.
The British Captain Ian Woosnam had a very different tactic to the Lehman which might have affected the game. He waited to see how his players were swinging their golf clubs at the Ryder Cup before picking teams, whereas Lehman picked his teams in advance and didn't necessarily use his best players to their best advantage.
