Golf Clubs – Ryder Cup – Comic Turn
Golf Clubs Ryder Cup Comic Turn
The European winners of the Ryder Cup showed they were game for a laugh and their humor was as sharp as their golf clubs.
Gags and grins
The BBC reported on the gags and grins from the European team after high spirits in Ireland after a stupendous display with their golf clubs that stormed them to victory in the 2006 Ryder Cup. Not only can they play a great game of golf, they can tell a gag or two too.
It seemed fitting as the Dublin comedy festival was coming to a close that the golfers demonstrated their wit and warmth in their final press conference. The humor revealed the team spirit that helped the European's golf clubs win the Ryder Cup for the third time in succession.
When in Rome
Perhaps the humor had something to do with the amount of Guinness the boys drank the old saying, When in Rome ' comes to mind when a sports tournament is hosted on Irish soil.
During the press conference, Irishman Padraig Harrington was asked how he felt about the experience of playing his golf clubs in the Ryder Cup, he replied that he was actually quite relieved', at which point his comrade David Howell left to use the facilities added: I'm about to be relieved too.
The European Ryder Cup team gave Joan Rivers and Jackie Mason a run for their money, but they shouldn't give up the day job lets hope they hang on to their golf clubs a bit longer. The humor may have been drink-fuelled but everybody was thrilled to join in the laugh after such an emotive and dramatic victory.
A drop of the black stuff
When Darren Clarke was asked at the press conference about what he felt about his Woosnam's captaining ability, he quipped he couldn't down a pint of Guinness fast enough, and ended up challenging Woosnam to a drinking contest.
Clarke: Guinness ability, that's why they picked me for the team, there was no other reason whatsoeverWhat was the question?
Party on
Nobody begrudged the team celebrating in style once the golf clubs had been put down after such a triumphant Ryder Cup.
At the end of the press conference, the winning Ryder Cup were asked who would be the last man standing at the party without using their golf clubs as aids. Clarke responded: I may not be standing but I'll be there. The headaches the day after were no doubt, worth it.
