Golf Clubs – Ryder Cup – Celtic Manor Resort

Golf Clubs Ryder Cup Celtic Manor Resort

On Friday, 28th September 2001, the Ryder Cup Committee made an announcement that the 38th Ryder Cup Match would be held at The Celtic Manor Resort golf club in Wales, in the autumn of 2010.

The Celtic Manor Resort is a five star luxury club hotel containing 400 rooms, 2 Championship golf courses and an academy course. Although it is already a sophisticated complex, in preparation for the world famous Ryder Cup, Celtic Manor will soon include a purpose built venue which will meet the needs of both the players and the spectators. The new course at Celtic Manor will be the very first course that has ever been designed and constructed specifically for the Ryder Cup.

By completion of the project, The Celtic Manor Resort will have invested over £16 million in designing, developing and constructing the new course, and the new golf clubhouse.

What Are The Aims Of The New Ryder Cup Course?

The purpose built Ryder Cup golf course has taken almost five years to construct. The aim of the course is to develop 18 holes that will be the ultimate challenge for a team of the world's best golfers and their clubs. The course was designed by European Golf Design (EGD) under consultation from Robert Trent Jones Junior, the architect who constructed the original Wentwood Hills course that hosted the Celtic Manor Wales Open 5 times between 2000 and 2004.

The newly constructed Ryder Cup course is a par 71 and measures 7,459 yards in length. It features 9 new holes and 9 holes that are from the Wentwood Hills Championship Course which has been extensively remodelled. Six of the course's signature holes feature a water hazard; in fact the course includes a comprehensive amount of water features that have been specifically designed to present the golfer and his clubs, with the ultimate dilemma.

What Can The Spectators Expect From The Course?

The new Ryder Cup golf course will be designed to accommodate over 35,000 spectators whilst maintaining sophisticated facilities, for example, the latest IT and information systems. It is proposed that a purpose built golf clubhouse will also be provided for the players.

The designers of the course have worked hard to ensure that the spectators will benefit from a large range of viewing opportunities that will be better than any previous Ryder Cup match. There is also a new road under construction which will ensure that spectators will not suffer from traffic congestion.

The Ryder Cup Course plans to open in Autumn 2007 when it will host the second Goodwill Trophy, the annual match play tournament between Europe and America the two teams represented in the Ryder Cup and a third international side selected from top playing clubs throughout the rest of the world.
