Golf Clubs – Ryder Cup America Crushed
Golf Clubs Ryder Cup America Crushed
Victory was a long way off for America as they were thrashed by the European's golf clubs at the 2006 Ryder Cup.
Tiger Woods may have skilfully used his golf clubs to win three out of his five matches at the 2006 Ryder Cup, but there wasn't much victory to be had for the American team.
Gracious losers
The American team were worn down by the European's golf clubs as they achieved a remarkable victory at the Ryder Cup a hat-trick for Europe their third win in a row. Despite loosing the tournament, US Captain Tom Lehman was gushing with praise for his rivals and was all too gracious to the victors.
"I tip my hat to you," the American captain said, "I doubt there has been a Ryder Cup team in history that has played any better."
Overwhelmed
America were overwhelmed with a victory margin of 18½ to 9½ - it seemed America felt like the underdogs and played their golf clubs accordingly despite the Ryder Cup being such a distinguished and sought after prize. Some commentators felt that although America boasts the number one players such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, they were unable to play to full form in a team event. One observation went as far to say that although Mickelson was physically at the Ryder Cup with golf clubs in hand, his spirit was somewhere else.
Golf clubs mishap
Tiger Woods still kept his image in tact at the Ryder Cup by swinging his golf clubs to victory over Europe 's Robert Karlsson. This despite a mishap with his golf clubs his caddy accidentally dropped his nine-iron into a lake on the Ryder Cup course. Woods had asked if he would clean the golf club, but the caddy slipped.
A diver went to rescue the nine-iron a key weapon in his golf clubs in a tournament as big as the Ryder Cup.
"We got the club back on 15 so I figured it must have been a European who dived for it," Woods joked to the press.
Domination
Hoping to reverse a European domination that has stretched more than 20 years, the American Ryder Cup team instead watched the Europeans thrash them with their golf clubs into defeat.
I think we played hard, Lehman said. I think we played with a lot of heart. We just didn't get the putts to drop.
