Oliver Fisher, 18, from Essex , Britain is being hailed in the UK as the next Nick Faldo. Thirty years after Faldo turned pro; Oliver is following in his footsteps. So far, he has had a stunning amateur career swinging his junior golf clubs to victory at the European Tour School in Spain becoming the only amateur to survive the six-round commando course.

Swing when you're winning

Fisher also became the youngest player ever to win a place on the Walker Cup at the age of 17, making his performance with his golf clubs better than Faldo's at the same junior level. Fisher has also won the international St Andrews Links Trophy.

When Nick Faldo turned pro in 1975 he went on to win six major titles, and it is hoped that when Fisher swaps his junior golf clubs for the professional adult world of golf, he will go on to similar success.

The comparisons with Faldo are inevitable � not least because Fisher has had hours of coaching from the golfing legend in Florida - he went on to swing his golf clubs to victory twice at the Faldo Junior Series.

�He has really helped me,� Fisher told the British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph. �He has seen and done it all and given me some wonderful tips.�

Turning Pro

When Oliver Fisher announced he was turning professional he joined the ranks of other teenage golf stars who swap their junior golf clubs for media, management and sponsorship deals. Fisher has probably stirred up more interest than most and is considered to be one of Britain 's best hopes for the future of the game.

�I'm thinking of it as just another step,� he told the press about turning pro. �I went from junior into men's amateur golf and this is just the next move.�

Despite the sponsorship deals with Nike and the seduction of the media, Fisher is one of the most down to earth players to have had success from such a young age. He has an impressive track record swinging his junior golf clubs, but has not let it go to his head.

�I've set my targets but I just love playing golf," he told the press. �I am enjoying all this attention but it's still nothing compared to competing on the back nine when you're in contention.�
