Golf Clubs – Junior Golf Clubs – The next generation
Golf Clubs Junior Golf Clubs The next generation
Are we doing enough to encourage the next generation of golfers to pick up their junior golf clubs and get involved in the game?
Junior Golf Clubs
The future of golf depends on training junior players and encouraging them to pick up a set of junior golf clubs. Golf may have originated in Britain but it seems America is doing more to keep the sport alive. In the States, there are countless training programmes for junior players and incentives to get them to pick up a set of junior golf clubs.
Junior Golf State Side
America has a great track record of encouraging juniors into golf clubs with incentives such as a, Bring Your Daughter Day'.
In 2006, Play Golf America saw record levels of PGA Professionals, golf clubs, and players participate in their programmes, proving that they are successfully attracting new blood and encouraging them to pick up sets of junior golf clubs.
- 6,725 facilities such as golf clubs hosted Play Golf America programmes.
- 935,281 people took group lessons and training at these golf clubs.
- 5.2 million people took part in organised play related to Play Golf America .
Through training initiatives in golf clubs across the States and the positive encouragement for juniors to join golf clubs, the future of golf looks bright.
Junior Golf not so Great in Britain
However in Britain , the game of golf is still struggling with an image problem. For many young people, golf clubs are still stuffy places that their dad or granddad goes to, and they would rather kick a football than swing a set of junior golf clubs. It just isn't cool.
The PGA in the UK is however working to formulate policy for the sport at government level to ensure training programmes and golf clubs are accessible to juniors. The PGA develops training with other golf clubs such as the England Golf Partnership's Whole Sport Plan, Club Golf Scotland , Golf Development Wales, Junior Golf Ireland and the implementation of the UK Coaching Certificate for golf.
Training with coaches
The PGA also has golf coaches implementing training for young people interested in trying out with a set of junior golf clubs. The fact is, golf is a game that can span a lifetime and isn't restricted to the retired and elderly. The more children encouraged to invest in a set of junior golf clubs, the stronger the game will become. It is also important to encourage children boys and girls, as well as children with disabilities and from ethnic minorities to learn how to use junior golf clubs as well as focusing on the gifted player.
