Golf Clubs – Golf Irons – What Are My Golf Distances?

Golf Clubs Golf Irons What Are My Golf Distances?

If you're wondering how far you should hit you golf clubs, read our tips on the capabilities of a golf iron.

Many people have asked the infamous question, how far should my golf club distance be? There is no correct answer to this question, and the only way to gain an understanding of what you should aim for from your golf irons, is to examine the factors which affect your golf swing.

There are many factors which can affect the distance of your golf club shot, to include some of the following:

•  The type of golf irons you are using

•  The type of golf balls you are using

•  The conditions under which you play, for example, is the ground a hard fairway or soft fairway?

•  The weather for example, is it windy, calm, humid or dry?

•  Your gender

•  Your age

•  Your physical fitness

•  Your coordination and athleticism

•  Your golf club swing speed

•  How solidly you are connecting with the golf ball

The key to performing the correct swing with your golf irons therefore lies in a large amount of factors and everyone's golf club capabilities are different. The way towards perfecting the right distance is getting to know your capabilities and becoming familiar with your own specific distance. Don't compare yourself to other players, and even more importantly, don't compare yourself to pro golfers. It is very rare that an amateur golfer's drive will succeed that of a pro golfer, so you shouldn't put yourself under pressure to perform too highly with your golf irons.

The simple way to become familiar with your golf club capabilities is to compare yourself to the people you play golf with who are of a similar standard to you. There is no shame in having a shorter golf club drive as long as you aim at hitting the ball straight and with the correct degree of control. Performing long shots with your golf irons will not guarantee you success or decrease your score, unless you learn how to keep the golf ball composed.

Bearing all the above factors in mind, below is a table with the yardages for a range of average amateur golf players, both male and female. Although it is interesting to compare yourself to this table, do not take these scores too much to heart. The most important factor to remember is that golf club distance depends mainly on the actual player as opposed to his or her golf irons.
