Golf Clubs – Golf Irons – The Cleaning Process
Golf Clubs Golf Irons The Cleaning Process
If you don't like spending money on golf club cleaning products, here's a guide to cleaning golf irons using simple household items.
If you're not very adventurous and have money to spend, then a golf club cleaning kit is probably the better option for you. However, if you're feeling slightly more adventurous about cleaning your golf irons then learn how you can clean your clubs with little more than a couple of household items.
All you need to start off with is a plastic bucket, or if you have a utility sink then this is even easier. You will then need some mild washing up liquid, a brush with plastic bristles (an old toothbrush will do the trick) and a towel. You're now ready to clean your golf irons!
The first step is to squirt some of the dishwashing liquid into the bucket or sink and add luke warm water. You only need to fill the bucket high enough to cover the heads of your golf irons. If you have a garden, then take your bucket out into the garden ready to start the golf club cleaning process.
Place your golf irons in the bucket with the clubheads fully submerged and leave your clubs to soak for approximately 1-2 minutes which will loosen the dirt caught in your irons. The soap will also start to erode away the golf course chemicals.
After the golf irons have been soaked for 1-2 minutes, you're now ready to take your plastic bristled brush and start cleaning out the grooves of each individual clubface. This is the most important part of the entire cleaning process as it will ensure that dirt and debris are removed from the grooves in your irons, which could affect play if not cleaned regularly.
If you've allowed dirt to build up in the grooves of your golf irons and this dirt has hardened over time, you may need to allow more soaking time and then use a stiffer bristled brush for the cleaning process. Never use a wire-bristled brush though as this will damage the face of your golf irons.
You're now ready to rinse your golf irons. The best instrument for doing this is a garden hose as you can apply more pressure on areas than a tap. When all the soap is washed away, check carefully that all the dirt is removed from the grooves. Use a towel to dry off the golf clubhead.
Finally, carefully drag the towel up the shaft of the club to remove any loose debris from it. You must also wipe the shaft dry so that you don't end up with w wet golf bag when you put your golf clubs back!
