Golf clubs – Courses That Beat Extreme Weather

Golf clubs Courses That Beat Extreme Weather

Extreme weather can hit the United States at any time, so are synthetic golf courses the answer for our golf clubs?

Weathering the weather

In America we can have extremes of weather from the consistently mild climate of California to torrential rains in the South. But not all golf clubs have to worry about getting too much rain on their courses. Over in Australia they enjoy the beach and sunshine but that's not always best for golfers. Some golf clubs with typical 18-hole golf courses can need as much as a million gallons of water a day during the dry summer months.

Faking it

In Yeppoon , Queensland , a multimillion dollar championship golf course is installing permanent synthetic greens and tees to overcome the problem after a severe drought. Reef Palms it claims will be the only one of the entire championship golf courses world wide to of addressed the issue of sustainability and turf maintenance.

 Groundbreaking

Swinging your golf clubs on synthetic courses may not sound as good as the real deal, but the Reef Palms course is designed by leading Australian golfer Wayne Grady. It is a groundbreaking development in the history of golf clubs and courses, but the issue was forced by the extreme nature of the country's weather.

Greener than green

It is also being hailed as much kinder to the environment. Golf clubs can use pesticides and waste huge amounts of water in the upkeep of their courses. The Reef Palms golf course however won't need pesticides or chemicals to maintain the turf, and is thought to be hard wearing.

The design of the synthetic turf would have utilized turf technicians a field that is booming as golf as an industry grows from strength to strength world wide.

Rain or shine

Some have doubts about swinging their golf clubs on 18-hole courses that use synthetic greens, but the designers insist it will be as good as the real thing, and could even be better with reliable consistency throughout the golf course.

 Home ground

Many companies specialize in building synthetic turfs for golf enthusiasts in their own back gardens for many, the appeal is to practice the game they love in the comfort of their own home. And of course, having your own personal golf courses can be cheaper than joining golf clubs however, these designs are usually restricted to around 9 holes, putting pitches or practice greens. And your partner or spouse may not agree to have your garden taken over by golf!
