Golf Clubs � Worried About Etiquette? Don't Be

If you are joining one of the many golf clubs across America than you need to get clued up on your golf etiquette.

There aren't many sports that have etiquette. Sure there's good sportsmanship, but golf goes one step further. The rules of golf etiquette are there for a reason however, many relate to safety and the quality of the golf course.

Etiquette is not just about that British idiosyncrasy of minding your p's and q's. Keeping safe is key in golf and one of the main rules of etiquette in the game is not to swing your golf clubs until you know that it is safe to do so � all other players should be a good, safe distance away.

Similarly, if a player you are with is about to start swinging his or her golf clubs, it's your responsibility to keep an eye out and a safe distance.

Some other etiquette tips include:

• Do not swing your golf clubs in the direction of another player.
• Do not swing your golf clubs until you can see the group ahead are clearly out of range.
• If by chance your ball does head towards another player than you should shout the word, �Fore!' to give them as much warning as possible.
• Just because you a driving a golf buggy without any highway signs or rules does not mean you should be haphazard. Always drive carefully and keep your buggy off the grass as much as possible to maintain the green.
• Don't do a John McEnroe! It's not acceptable in tennis and it's certainly not acceptable in golf. Throwing your golf clubs in anger can be dangerous.
• Don't dawdle! Keep a reasonable pace so you're not holding other players up.
• Don't spend more than five minutes looking for a lost golf ball as it holds everyone else up.
• If you damage the green when you swing your golf clubs, make sure you repair all ball marks.
• Likewise, rake sand traps once you have played your shot.
• Don't yell or chit chat when a player is about to swing his golf clubs � it can put them off.
