Golf balls � Film star protects her home from low flying balls

Catherine Zeta Jones takes unusual steps to protect her home and family from low flying golf balls

Movie stars Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have built a �2 million home in her native South Wales . The local population isn't used to such glamour or wealth, so assumed that the bullet-proof glass installed in the windows was there as an additional security measure to protect her family. And it is indeed there to protect the family � from low flying golf balls.

Both Zeta Jones and Douglas are keen golfers, so it is no surprise that they chose to build the mansion next door to a golf course. However, with two small children Zeta Jones was taking no chances that stray golf balls from the adjoining club would come flying through the windows, and had the high-security glass installed as a precaution.

One local golfer commented that �if you slice your shot, your golf ball will fly towards their house so the windows are there as a safety measure'.

The mansion, safe from flying golf balls and inaccessible to the public, is in Mumbles in Swansea , South Wales . Zeta Jones has retained close ties with the area � not only does she still have close family there, but she named her son Dylan after the poet Dylan Thomas who hailed from near Swansea . Or at least that's how the story goes � perhaps she just liked the name!

Zeta Jones will spend even more time dodging golf balls in Wales and less time at one of the other homes she shares with Douglas in Majorca, Bermuda , New York and LA when she films �Coming Out'. Co-starring Alan Cumming, the plot is of a gay cabaret star who is forced to coach a Welsh rugby team. Zeta Jones's film company Milkwood is producing. And of course Under Milkwood is a well-know play by none other than Dylan Thomas!

Chat show host David Letterman got a quick lesson in hitting his golf balls when Catherine appeared as a guest on his show. He asked for tips for improving his swing, so she was happy to oblige, to the delight of the audience.

In 2005 Catherine played for Team Europe at a charity golf tournament in Newport , South Wales , but wasn't up to speed when it came to hitting her golf balls. She told Sky Sports television: "I had a bad back yesterday, and now it's better, I can't hit the ball." She missed her first couple of shots on the Roman Road course at Celtic Manor. When a fan tried to cheer her along by telling her she looked beautiful, she reportedly replied �but my golf is ugly'
