When you're bowling, your hands are the nearest thing to the cricket ball other than your bat, so look for gloves which have the maximum padded protection, particularly on the thumb and the first two fingers. It's always better to try the gloves as they also need to be as lightweight as possible so as not to cause discomfort when you're holding your bat.
Pads � These are another essential item as the shins are one of the most sensitive parts of your body. Try to purchase light weight pads as this will make running between the wickets.
Bat � This is the most important piece of cricket equipment you will buy. There is no set range of cricket bats which are suitable for a certain age or size of batsman, the key is to try out as many bats as you can and find one that suits your personal preference, and also one that you feel comfortable with. There are a few standard requirements to look for when purchasing your cricket bat. As per the rules set by MCC, a bat shouldn't be more than 38 inches or 96.5 cm in length, with the blade not exceeding 4 1/4 in or 10.8 cm at the widest part. The material used for protection of the blade should not exceed 1/16 in or 1.56 mm in thickness, and should not be likely to cause unacceptable damage to the ball.
