Rory McIlroy has stated his intention to reduce his schedule in 2013 in the hopes of keeping his focus in tournaments.
The World No1 has admitted he "struggles" to maintain a level of intensity
throughout the year, citing a lack of motivation as the reason for a
dismal exit from the World Golf Final in Turkey.
So far McIlroy
has played in 21 tournaments, excluding Europe's heroics in Medinah at
the Ryder Cup, and still has a number of events to play including the
Race to Dubai and another Tiger Woods showdown in China.
Throw
into the mix a jet-setting girlfriend, in the form of tennis star
Caroline Wozniacki, and it's no surprise McIlroy is looking to reign
things in on the course.
I would just love to cut my schedule
back even further and I think next year I will cut it down again to a
max play of 22 or 23," McIlroy said.
"I still have got some big
events left and I would love to win the Race to Dubai and repeat what
Luke did also winning the money list on the PGA Tour, so I am going to
give it one last push.
"It has been a great season and I am ready
to be done. It is just such a long season these days. But then I feel I
have got an obligation to play some of these big events leading up to
Dubai.
"However I won't find it tough to get myself up for my
last events as I want to especially win the Race to Dubai after coming
close a few times."
