With the expected announcement from the European Tour that the Ryder
Cup, Presidents Cup and Seve Trophy will henceforth count towards the 13
events needed to play in events run by the continental organization,
they may have nabbed a pretty big fish.
Or rather, a Tiger.
The
14-time major winner Tiger Woods last considered joining the Tour
across the Atlantic from his homeland in 2000 when the required number
of events to qualify was eleven.
But with these changes for
membership, there's a very real possibility that the player who is still
undeniably the biggest draw in the game could cross-over.
"I
knew I would have to play one of two more events back then when it was
11 but now that criteria is 13," he said during a World Golf event in
Turkey.
"I don't know what my numbers are as I know I played 19
in the States this year and whether it crosses over or not but I will
again look at it.
"I did play Abu Dhabi but then 13 are certainly a lot more than 11, especially playing full-time in the States."
Woods
is already committed to the four majors, four World Golf Championship
events, appearances in the middle east, Presidents Cup and the Ryder
Cup, these tournaments would mean the 36-year-old is only between two to
three events short of the thirteen speculated to be required in the
upcoming announcement.
