Is it too much to expect a Tiger Woods' win?By Tod Leonard
March 26, 2009, 10:08 a.m.
Tiger Woods has just teed off in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and there is but one compelling question this week: Is he ready to win?
His pro-am round at Bay Hill, where he's won five times, might tell the story. He shot a bogey-free 66 on a course on which he has won five times before. He also had only one bogey in four rounds two weeks ago at Doral.
"Danger, danger, danger," Rocco Mediate said this week. "If he’s making one bogey in four rounds, he’s obviously hitting it better. We know his short game is the best, but we know he didn’t really make a lot of putts. When he does that, that will be the Tiger we know, and that will be the end of the game.”
Of course, Rocco was WAY OFF in his original prediction that Woods would win in his first time back out at the Match Play. He only last two rounds.
But Woods says he's feeling much better than when he first returned to competition.
I feel like I’m back playing now,” Woods said Wednesday. “I feel like I’m back where I can just go out and play golf, and that’s fun. There were so many question marks going into the Match Play and even into Doral. Now I feel like I can just go play golf.”
This week will definitely be telling as to where Woods' game is. If he is truly ready, he should win. If he's still bluffing a little, he will be smoked out this week. And then a victory run at the Masters would be very much in doubt.
