Yani Tseung, the rising ladies golf star shot 4 under 68 yesterday in the Opening round of the Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale, to tie for the lead with Australian Katherine Hull.
Conditions were blustery on the links course in the morning, but those teeing off in the afternoon were able to take advantage of more benign conditions.
Trying for her third Major Championship win: Tseung won the Kraft Nabisco Championship this year and the LPGA Championship in 2008, Tseung shot a bogey free round that included an birdie and eagle on the last two holes.
Hull also made an eagle on the 18th, after she had dropped a stroke at the fourth, followed by three birdies beginning at the seventh hole.
Anne-Lise Caudal of France, took an early lead of 3 under 69, but was soon joined by South Korena Kim Lnag and Sun Young Yoo as well as American Brittany Linicome.
Four time Major Winner; Britain’s Laura Davis shot a level par 72, while American Michelle Wie opened with 2 under 70.
Last week’s Evian Masters winner Jiyai Shai opened with 71 and the reigning US Open Champion Paula Creamer had a 74
Defending Champion Catriona Matthews finished 3 over 75 after the opening round.
