McIlroy & Woods to go head-to-head in China

World number one Rory McIlroy will go head-to-head with the world's most high-profile golfer, Tiger Woods, in a one-off, one-day contest at Jinsha Lake matchplay contest in China in October, organizers said yesterday.

The event between the two will take place in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, on Oct 29, with both players taking part in Asia-based tournaments proceeding the date.

McIlroy will be journeying for the BMW Masters in Shanghai and Woods, the world current No3, will jet in from Malaysia following the CIMB Classic.

"It's an exciting concept and it will be a lot of fun going head to head with Tiger," McIlroy said.

"The duel at Jinsha Lake will be the first time myself and Tiger have come together to play a 'one-off' match like this, so I'm really looking forward to it. I've always looked up to him as a player. What he's achieved in the game is remarkable."

McIlroy spent time in China last year during the China Golf Challenge which saw him take in 18 holes across eight countries in seven cities in the company of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and China's number one Liang Wenchong.

"With the huge growth of the game of golf across Asia and the inclusion of the sport in the next Olympic Games in 2016, I think it's fitting for this great event to take place in China," added McIlroy.
