Woods to start season at Pebble Beach

Tiger Woods has announced that he will play his first PGA Tour event of the year at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, on February 9-12.

"I'm excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am," Woods said on his website. "AT&T is a great partner to my Foundation, and I'm looking forward to playing in this event. I haven't been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back."

Woods hasn’t been back at the Pebble Beach pro-am event since 2002, while his most iconic sojourn in Monterrey was 12 years ago when he won the 2000 U.S. Open by a record 15 strokes.

"It's always been one of my favorite spots," Woods said in his statement. "It might be the prettiest place on earth."

While Woods normally kicks off his PGA Tour season at January’s Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, this year he’ll be playing the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on January 26.

After an injury-ravaged 2011 ended in triumph at the Presidents Cup and the Chevron World Challenge, Woods hopes his 2012 will see a continuation of form and fitness.

"It was great to finish 2011 strong," said Woods. "More importantly it's good to be healthy again and I'm hoping to get off to a fast start."
