China announce new $7M European Tour event

Third time's a charm for whoever wins the European Tour's latest venture into China, as they announced that the Lake Malaran Golf Club in Shanghai will host the BMW Masters tournament with a whopping $7 million prize fund.

Scheduled to take place from October 25-28, the event will create a trinity of golfing spectacles in the China mainland.

Along with last week's China Open in Tianjin, the WGC-Champions event in Shenzhen  is due to take place a week after the BMW Masters on November 1-4.

"I am already looking forward to teeing off at the tournament," said world number one Rory McIlroy.

The reigning US Open champion won last years unsanctioned Shanghai Masters at Lake Malaren in a play-off against American Anthony Kim.

"The tournament will be one of the very best events in the world. That obviously makes it all the more exciting to defend my title there," added the Northern Irishman in a statement.
