Henrik Stenson hits the jackpot with FedEx Win

At Atlanta's East Lake Course, Henrik Stenson not only claimed the Tour Championship title but also that of the FedEx Cup, one of the most lucrative prizes in golf giving him a combined earning of nearly £7.2m to put the icing on a fabulous 2013 for the Swede.

Stenson's final round of 68 was enough to keep both rookie (Jordan Speith) and veteran (Steve Stricker) at bay down the final stretch.

A great summer for Stenson, in some sort of annus mirablis, that saw him finish as runner-up at the British Open Championship, a World Golf Championship and a third at the PGA Championship - and an even better start to Fall brought him victory at the second FedEx Cup event, the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

"It's been just an incredible run," he said. "I'm speechless. It was a tough day out there. To hang in there the way I did, I'm really satisfied. ... It hasn't quite sunk in yet. I had to fight hard mentally to keep all this aside, and I managed to do that. It's going to feel better as the week goes on. I'm pretty sure about that."

Stenson's victory encapsulated a magnificent turn around from the start of 2012 when he was ranked at No222 in the world. His game was in disarray and in a protracted slump, but this win now takes him unquestionably into the ranks of the elite.
