Toms wins Crowne Plaza Invitational

Just a week after he lost out to K J Choi in a sudden death play-off at the Players Championship, David Toms has won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

More than five years after his last win at the Sony Open in Hawaii Toms, beat Charlie Wi by one shot to finish his final round 3 under 67.

After posting two consecutive rounds of 62, Toms was seven shots ahead going into the weekend, and looked in fine form, but a disastrous round of 74 on Saturday, meant that he went into the final day shot behind Choi

He regained his lead after he holed a wedge shot from 83 yards on the par 5, 11th.

Overnight leader Wi was then three shots behind with three holes to play. He made up two shots with a birdie at the 16th and Tom’s bogey at the 17th, but failed to make a birdie on the 18th to become finish on 69, his fourth career runner-up finish.

"I'm not dreaming, am I? This is actually happening, right?" said Toms, who was 2001 PGA Championship winner "Wow, I didn't know if this day would ever come again."

“To win after this time frame and to come back after what happened last week certainly means more to me than any other victory,"
