Perez knocks Love out of MastersBy Tod Leonard

Pat Perez's good fortune and bogey save Sunday in the Arnold Palmer Invitational knocked Davis Love III out of the Masters.
This week's world rankings are the cutoff to be in the top 50 and make the Masters, and with his tie for fourth, Perez moved to No. 48 in the rankings and knocked Love, who missed the cut, out of the top 50. Perez, the Torrey Pines High grad, already had qualified for his second trip to Augusta with his win at the Bob Hope Classic in January.
Trying to win the tournament, Perez hit a shot over the water and went for the flag on the 18th hole. His ball came up short, but didn't get wet, and Perez eventually made bogey. If he had gone in the water, he might have made a double bogey and Love would have remained in the top 50.
Unless Love wins in Houston this week, he faces a second straight year of not playing in the Masters.
According to the Associated Press, four players earned invitations: Alvaro Quiros of Spain (No. 25), Prayad Marksaeng (No. 47), Mathew Goggin of Australia (No. 49) and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa (No. 50).
Prayad made the biggest rally Sunday, closing with a 64 to tie for second in the Black Mountain Masters on the Asian Tour to secure his spot in the top 50.
The Thai who grew up in poverty received an exemption to the Masters last year, but had to withdraw because of a back injury.
"There were people who looked down on me after my withdrawal and said I would never be invited back," Prayad said. "So I wanted to prove very badly that I could qualify on my own merit. I'm very happy."
