Rory Mcilroy By The Numbers Blog Posted

Here’s a breakdown of some of the more unique numbers surrounding Rory McIlroy’s triumph at the PGA Championship over the weekend.

  •     18: McIlroy is just the fifth player in history to win the Open Championship and the PGA Championship in the same year, joining: Walter Hagen (1924), Nick Price (1994), Tiger Woods (2006) and Padraig Harrington (2008).
  •     2: If McIlroy could start the 2015 season with a win at The Masters, he would become only the third player since the start of the 20th century to win three or more Majors in a row. The other two are Woods, who won the 2000 US Open, Open Championship, PGA Championship and 2001 Masters consecutively, and Bobby Jones, who won the 1930 British Open, US Open, US Amateur and PGA Amateur titles in the same year.
  •     25: At the start of the season, McIlroy was tied for 45th place all-time with two Major titles. He is now tied for 20th all-time with four.
  •     6: Major championships in the 2010s for Northern Ireland. Only the US (7) has more.
  •     3 of 4: This is the first time since all four Majors came into existence at the same time (1934) that players from Europe have won 3 of the 4 titles.
