Americans lead at Texas

Americans, Jason Bohn, Jeff Overton and Blake Adams are the leaders going into day two of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Crowne Colonial CC, Fort Worth, Texas. The three golfers shot 7 under 63s.

Phil Mickelson did not get off to such a good start. If the masters champion wins this, not only would it be his third colonial victory, he would overtake Tiger Woods for the first time in his career and become no 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Mickelson birdied his first two holes, but eventually finished with 1 over 71 to tie for 89th place.  He faces a battle just to make the cut with 75 other players coming in under par. He could not offer any reason for his poor performance

"There's no excuse. There's no wind, the golf course is in perfect shape, and there were a lot of scores out there, “he said.”I just wasn't one of them."

Brian David finished in fourth place on 64. He was suffering with an abscess inside his mouth and visited the doctor as soon as his round had finished.

Defending champion Steve Stricker shot 68, to place him tied 39.

The tournament has a purse of 6.2 million dollars
