Glover wins Wells Fargo Championship

Lucas Glover has beaten fellow American Jonathan Byrd in a sudden death play-off to win the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow

2009 US Open Champion, Glover started the final day joint third, but after four birdies and an eagle on the par 5 10th to finished top of the leader board to join Byrd, who had started the final day in the lead, but after a par 72 round had to share the position to force a play-off

The sudden death play-off only needed one extra hole after Byrd’s tee shot ended in a bunker, and Glove found the green easily and finished with a two foot put to take the title.

South African Rory Sabbatini finished third, with a final round of 7 under 65, finishing the tournament on 14 under, one short ahead of American Bill Haas.

Padraig Harrington was the leading European tying in ninth position with Phil Mickelson, after finishing on 10 under for the tournament.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy failed to make the cut by three shots after an opening round of 75 on Thursday, followed by level par 72 on Friday.
