Mediate: I’m disgusted with Woods’ decline

The Frys.com Open defending champion, Rocco Mediate, has lambasted the poor performances of the tournament’s newest entrant, former world No. 1 Tiger Woods.

"I love the way he plays, but I'm disgusted with what's going on with him because it's sad for our game," Mediate said Tuesday from Pittsburgh, where he will play in this week's Nationwide Tour event.

"A lot of guys are happy Tiger isn't playing well. I'm not."

He continued: "We need to have Tiger back at the top, because he's the draw. It's fantastic all these other kids are winning, but they're not Tiger Woods."

The 48-year-old from Greensburg, Pennsylvania suggested that Woods’ new swing is to blame, and it is putting too much stress on his already injury-ravaged body.

"The physical motion is wrong," Mediate said. "To get that stress off his body is a piece of cake - the guys working with him just don't know. That's why he keeps breaking and that's why the ball keeps going sideways."

Despite his own injuries – torn tendons in his arm and on-going back problems – curtailing his own game, Mediate is looking forward to playing alongside Woods again.

The six-time tour winner previously faced-off against the fallen star in his best ever finish at a major.

Mediate was beaten by the then imperious Woods at the 2008 U.S. Open in a sudden death playoff.

"It just shows another side of him," Mediate said of Woods' decision to play the Frys.com Open.

"He's trying to get better, trying to figure out his swing problem. When he gets his stuff together, he'll be No. 1 again and everything will be back to normal."
