Lehman lands GWAA Senior Player of The Year

Tom Lehman has been named the overwhelming choice as senior player of the year by the Golf Writers Association of America, adding another feather in the cap to the Minnesota-native.

Lehman was the runaway winner in the GWAA balloting, the 52-year-old grabbing 86 percent of the vote (177) to eight percent (16) for John Cook. Mark Calcavecchia (10) was third.

Lehman won three times in 2011, including his second Champions Tour major, the Regions Tradition, in a playoff over Peter Senior.

He had 12 top-10 finishes to lead the Champions Tour money list and win the Charles Schwab Cup and Champions Tour POY honors.

Yani Tseng received 94 percent of the vote as the female player of the year after winning 12 times worldwide, including two majors. Luke Donald was voted male player of the year.

They will be honored at the GWAA annual awards dinner April 4 in Augusta, Georgia.
